40th Aptitude Test in Chemistry, 2024 (AT-2024)

Indian Chemical Society, Mumbai Branch, as part of its continuing efforts to improve chemical education and advance the professional knowledge of chemists, through specialized courses and workshops, is happy to announce the 40th Aptitude Test in Chemistry (AT-2024) on 22nd September 2024.

The Test is aimed at the undergraduate (and above) students in chemistry. However, there are no pre-requisites of a degree or majoring in chemistry. The Test has the primary objective of providing an opportunity for science students to evaluate themselves to help further their academic/professional career. There is no restriction of age or higher qualification or repeat appearance (for improvement in performance). Top merit holders will receive a medallion, cash award and a certificate, whereas other successful candidates will get certificates, to be distributed at a special award function which will be announced later.

Indian Chemistry Society Aptitude Test

Fill in the application form and send it to Dr. K. C. Barick, Convener AT-2024, ICS(MB), C/o Chemistry Division, BARC, Trombay, Mumbai 400 085 mentioning on the top of the cover “Aptitude Test in Chemistry-2024” directly or through other academics mentioned in the main announcement. (Please do not come to BARC to hand over the filled forms). The last date for the receipt of the application is 13th September 2024.

The registration fee is Rs.150/-.

Heads of the Chemistry Department of colleges/institute are requested to register the students and forward the names to Dr. Karun Sodah, Department of Chemistry, KC College, Churchgate, Dr. D. V. Prabhu, Department of Chemistry, Wilson College, Chowpatty or Prof. Jyoti Patwardhan / Prof. Manish Hate, Ramnarain Ruia College, Matunga or Dr. (Ms.) Sugandha Shetye, K. J. Somaiya College, Vidya Vihar.

The Test will comprise of 100 multiple choice questions, drawn from all the branches of Chemistry (analytical, inorganic, organic and physical). In addition, there will be a few questions with emphasis on mathematics and physics. Four choices will be provided for each question and the correct or the best possible answer is required to be chosen. All questions carry equal weightage. Each correct answer will fetch three marks while one mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. Hence guessing will be counterproductive and should be avoided.

The duration of the test will be 2 hours. It is not expected that all the questions can be answered in the time allotted. The answer choices must be marked on a separate evaluation sheet. No calculator or logarithmic table will be necessary. Question paper and answer sheet must be handed over to the invigilator before leaving.
